You're the last person on an abandoned desert planet, and the only thing left to do is drive: out across the dunes, grabbing the research data the evacuation left behind before the local wildlife catches up. That wildlife is giant, and it's fast, and it's the whole reason Desert Worms is a race instead of a stroll.
Each level drops you on open, dusty terrain with data canisters scattered ahead and a worm burrowing toward you the moment you move. You steer, dodge the sand where a worm is about to surface, and grab canisters on the way past. Charge meters fill as you drive, giving you a burst of speed to pull clear of a worm that's closing in, or a decoy to drop behind you and buy a few seconds while it takes the bait instead of you.
Controls
- Left / Right arrow keys — steer
- Up arrow — boost, once charged
- Down arrow — drop a decoy, once charged
- Space — brake
Tips
- Don't hoard your boost — a charged boost is only useful the moment a worm actually surfaces near you, and it recharges on its own.
- Watch the sand ahead, not just the worm itself; a rippling patch of dune is your warning that one is about to break the surface.
- Save your decoy for when you're boxed in rather than burning it the first time a worm appears — later levels throw more than one at you at once.
It's a short, replayable arcade run rather than a long campaign — good for a few quick attempts when you want something with an actual sense of danger to it.
