About Snake 3D

Snake 3D takes the classic grid-crawler and rebuilds it as a small floating island rendered in real 3D. You steer a snake around the island eating apples to grow longer, and every bite within a few seconds of the last one extends a combo that raises the pitch of the eat sound and, at five in a row, sets off a shower of sparks. One wrong turn into your own tail, a wall, or the edge of the island (depending on the mode) ends the run instantly.

The single-player loop is built around unlocking: your lifetime apple count (saved in this browser) gradually opens up new game modes, snake skins, board tile colors and scenery themes, so a five-minute run and a fifty-run session both feel like they're going somewhere. There are 12 modes in total, 37 skins, 6 board colors and 8 scenery themes to work through.

Controls

Arrow keys or WASD to steer. On touch devices, swipe in the direction you want to move.

Modes

Classic is the baseline; the rest twist the rules once you've unlocked them. Portal drops in two linked tiles that teleport your head between them. Twin hands control to the opposite end of the snake every time you eat. Yin-Yang and Cheese change how the body reads on screen. Key mode locks the apples behind a gate until you fetch a key first. Sokoban has you push a crate into a hole instead of eating to score. Poison and Stones scatter hazards that kill on contact. Borderless removes the walls so you wrap around the island instead of dying at the edge, and Blender mixes two unlocked modes into one board.

Tips

  • Keep eating within about three seconds of your last bite to keep the combo going — the sound and visual feedback are your cue you're still on a streak.
  • In Key mode, touching an apple before you've picked up the key ends the run, so route toward the key first.
  • Portals are two-way — jumping through one can put you right next to your own tail on the side, so plan the landing spot before you commit.
  • Because unlocks are tied to total apples eaten rather than wins, short runs still count toward opening the next mode or skin.
