Fireboy and Watergirl 4: The Crystal Temple is the fourth stop in Oslo Albet's long-running co-op platformer series, and the one that finally breaks from pure fire-and-water platforming to add portals. Step into a glowing panel and you come out of whichever panel shares its color — black portals link to black portals, white to white — so half of every puzzle here is tracing where a portal actually leads before you commit to jumping through it.
The core rules from earlier games still apply: Fireboy dies in water and green slime but walks through lava untouched, Watergirl is the reverse, and green pools kill both of them on contact. What's new is that portals carry momentum and objects through with you, so a level can ask you to walk a crate through a chain of portals to unstick a switch on the far side of the map, or time a jump so it carries through a portal and lands you on a ledge you couldn't otherwise reach.
Controls
- Fireboy: Arrow keys to move and jump
- Watergirl: A and D to move, W to jump
- Restart level: R
Tips
- Before stepping into any portal, check the room it faces — the color tells you where you'll land, not what's waiting there.
- Momentum carries through a portal, so a running jump into one can launch you further than a standing jump would on the side.
- When a level needs both characters in place at once, move whichever one has the shorter path first, then bring the in.
It's built for two people sharing a keyboard as much as for solo play, and the portal puzzles reward patience over reflexes — worth it if you liked the earlier temples and want a genuinely new mechanic rather than more of the same layout.
