Penalty Shooters is a soccer game built entirely around the shootout: no midfield, no dribbling, just you against the goalkeeper (and back again). Pick a team from a roster of 32 real English clubs, including Stoke City, Manchester United and Wolverhampton, and work your way through a knockout tournament decided kick by kick.
Each round has two halves. On offense, you aim your shot and pick your moment before the keeper commits, trying to place the ball where the dive can't reach. Then the roles swap: you're between the posts, reading the striker's run-up and diving the right way before the ball beats you. Miss your kick or guess wrong as keeper and the tournament can turn in a single shot, which is what keeps a five-minute match feeling tense the whole way through.
Controls
Play with the mouse: aim and click to strike when shooting, and click a side to dive when you're in goal. The game also runs on phone and tablet, where the same aiming and diving works with taps instead of clicks.
Tips
- Wait a beat before you shoot — firing the instant the ball is placed makes your aim easier for the keeper to read.
- As goalkeeper, watch where the striker is aiming rather than reacting to the kick itself; by the time the ball moves it's often too late to change direction.
- Mix up your shot placement between rounds so the keeper can't settle into diving one way.
It's a good pick for a quick match between games, or for anyone who just wants the shootout part of a soccer match without the ninety minutes around it.
