Jetpack Joyride puts you in the boots of Barry Steakfries as he breaks into a secret lab, straps on a jetpack he was never supposed to touch, and bolts for the exit through an endless stream of laser grids, homing missiles and electric zappers. There's no jumping or shooting to learn — you fly by holding a single button, and the whole game is about controlling your altitude through gaps that get tighter and faster the longer you survive.
Each run ends in a slapstick death rather than a fade-to-black, and every coin you grab along the way carries over to a permanent shop of gadgets and vehicles back at HQ. That's the loop that keeps people coming back: a two-minute dash, a stupid death, a small upgrade, and one more try.
Controls
Hold the mouse button, tap, or hold a key (spacebar works on most versions) to fire the jetpack and rise. Release to let gravity pull Barry back down. That's the entire control scheme — timing your holds and releases is what gets you through the obstacles.
Tips
- Fly in short taps rather than long holds — it's easier to thread a narrow gap with small corrections than to fight momentum after one big burst upward.
- Vehicles you pick up mid-run, like the Lil' Stomper or the Profit Bird, usually can't be destroyed by lasers or missiles, so use them to push through the messiest sections instead of dodging around them.
- Spend coins on gadgets that extend your run (head starts, revives, magnets) before cosmetic vehicle skins — they pay for themselves in coins collected on future runs.
It's a pick-up-and-play game built for short sessions — a few runs between things rather than one long sitting.
